Army Ladies - End of Season Report 2015/16

The 2015/16 Season was an excellent season for the Army Ladies, achieving all 3 of our objectives, winning the Indoor and Outdoor Inter Services tournaments and gaining promotion to the National League Indoor Tournament. CSgt Wayne Masters continued as the lead coach this season and availability of players was excellent allowing very strong Indoor and Outdoorsquads to be selected.

2015/16 Season Results:

Indoor Inter Services – The ladies produced an impressive performance at the tournament with convincing 12-1 and 10-3 wins over the R Navy and RAF respectively.

Indoor Qualifier – Having been relegated from the National League Indoor competition last season, the ladies went to the West Indoor Qualifier at Bath University on Sat 05 Dec 15. Having lost the first pool game against Gloucester, the ladies met them again in the final and beat them to qualify for the National League Div 2 tournament.

The team was placed in the North Pool tournament which was held at Perdiswell Leisure Centre, Worcester over the weekend 09 – 10 Jan against Beeston, Ben Rhydding, Liverpool Sefton, Loughborough Students and Stourport. The team finished 3 rd in the league with 2 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss which resulted in the team qualifying for the Div 2 tournament and also guaranteed that the team remains in the National League tournament next season.

The Div 2 tournament was held over the weekend 23 – 24 Jan 16 at the Richard Dunn Sports Centre, Bradford consisting of the top 3 teams from both the Div 2 North and South Pool tournaments; Beeston, Chelmsford, Ipswich, Stourport and Trojans. Despite battling performances, the team finished in 4 th place, winning 2 and losing 3 of the matches, although 2 of the defeats were only by 1 goal.

Outdoor Inter Services

This year we had a very strong squad for the outdoor Inter Services and the girls were determined to comprehensively retain the trophy. We had a good training camp in February, with a match against Sevenoaks, however we were unable to play the match against Maidenhead due to frost. The traditional match against the England Masters O40s team on the Sunday prior to the tournament was of an excellent standard resulting in a  5-5 draw. At the tournament, we convincingly beat the R Navy 15 – 1 and then the RAF 10– 0 to retain the trophy. Capt Cheryl Valentine was awarded Ladies Player of the Tournament and 2 players received their Army colours.

Future Focus:

Next season our aim is to develop the younger players for the future, retain the Indoor and Outdoor Inter Services titles and retain National League status in the Indoor tournament.
